Landscaping work can be full time, part time, or seasonal depending on where you live. Landscaping involves caring for the lawn, and gardens of homes and businesses. The work can be as simple as regular cutting and weeding or as involved as designing, planting trees, and more.

What You Will Need To Get Started?
  • There is no special degree required to become a landscaper, but many two-year and community colleges offer landscape design courses.
  • You will need a business license and/or a permit to be a professional landscaper, so check with your local government to find out how to start the process.
  • You should talk with a lawyer about setting up a legal business entity and designing your contracts.
  • To get started, you will need a truck or van, lawnmower, hedge clippers and a weed whacker. You will also need some basic chemicals like lawn fertilizer and weed killer. Proper training is recommended before using any chemicals or equipment.
  • You should be ready to do simple projects like planting bushes and flowers, laying down stone or wood chips and planting trees. If you can design an outdoor living space or suggest specific plants to your clients, you can make more money.
  • In warm weather cities, landscaping can be done year-round. In colder cities many landscaping businesses do plowing and snow removal in the winter.

How Much Can I Make?
  • Most landscapers earn between $30,000-$40,000 a year.
